Support Groups for Survivors of Sexual Violence and Other Serious Crimes In addition to individual counseling, VSC also offers support groups for survivors of violence. Groups ease the pain of isolation and provide the strength for healing. Survivors of violence support each other and work together to move through and beyond the pain of victimization. Two VSC counselors facilitate each support group. Groups will meet weekly in Montgomery County for up to twelve weeks. The following support groups are available for clients of VSC: Adult Female Survivors of Rape This group offers female rape survivors a space to vent emotions, receive supportive feedback and validation from other survivors, and exchange ideas for coping. Adult Female and Male Survivors of Child Sexual Abuse This group offers both male and female survivors of childhood sexual abuse a space to discuss feelings, talk about how their victimization has impacted them in adulthood, receive support from other survivors, and exchange ideas for coping and healing. Adolescent Female Survivors of Sexual Violence This group is for teenage girls who have experienced any type of sexual victimization including sexual abuse, molestation, date rape, and sexual assault. The group offers survivors a space to talk about their feelings, receive support from other teen victims, and exchange ideas for coping. Caretakers of Child Victims of Abuse The caretakers support group involves psychoeducational workshops that strive to offer caretakers helpful information about child abuse including common indicators of abuse and trauma reactions among children, ways of supporting and talking with your child about his/her victimization, and ideas for coping with your own feelings about your child's abuse. Victims of Other Serious Crimes This group is for male and female victims of assault, robbery, burglary, hate crimes, and other serious crimes involving violence. This group offers survivors a space to vent emotions, receive supportive feedback and validation from other survivors, and exchange ideas for coping. Survivors of Homicide Victims This group is for all people (parents, spouses, other family friends, etc.) who have experienced a death of a loved one by homicide. The group offers homicide survivors a safe place to express feelings, receive support and validation from other survivors, and exchange ideas for coping.
